XXII. yāļi, whose birth place in this earth was known as Kārchivāyil and who was known in the world as Räjarāja-Mūvēndavél : At bis (i.e. the king's) injunction, he caused this edict to be neatly executed. (Vv. 43-44) At the direction of that lord of Katāha, Sriman Atikal's son, who was well known as Tuvavüravan Aņukka, who was modest, endowed with virtues, devoted to his master's concerns and of generous mind, caused to be made this lasting edict. (Vv. 45-48) The most intelligent Räjarāja-Mahachārya, otherwise called Väsudēva, who, though born of Krishna, was not of black (krishna) conduct; the two sons of Krishna, called Sriranga and Damodara, who were the bees (as it were) at the lotus-feet of Krishna ; and also the son of Vāsudēva, named Kțishna, who had beautiful lotus-like eyes : and the son of Arāvamrita, called Purushottama, of excellent speech (?), who was vying with Chitragupta in stamping (i.e. engraving) letters-these five artista, who were the forehead-marks of the Hõvya family and born in Kanchipura, wrote this eulogy. This edict was incised by us, the engraving sculptors of the prosperous (city of Kanchipura in Jayangondachöjamandalam, viz., Krishnan Väsudēvan alias Rājarajappëracharyan, Krishnan Tiruvarangan, Krishņaş Dāmādarap, Väsudēvan Kșishṇap and Ārāvamirdu Purushottaman. Tamil portion. (1.1) Hail! Prosperity! (This is the order of) Kõnērioniaikoņdān (issued) to the nātțăr (i.e., the members of the Divisional Assembly) of Pattapa-kūrram, a sub-division in Kshatriyasikhāmaņi-vaļanādu, the headmen of brahmaděyas, the representatives of the ur in devadānas, pallichchanda, kanimurruflu and vettippēru (villages) and the nagarangaļilar (i.e., the body of merchants). (1. 4) In the twenty-first year and ninety-second day of our (reign) when we were in the pavilion to the south of the palace of Räjährayan (situated) outside Tañjāvūr, we having declared that, in order to meet the necessary requiremente of the palli (attached to the Chüļāmanivarma-vihara which is being built by the Kidāra king Chūlāmaņivarman at Nāgapattanam in Pattana-kurram (a sub-division) of Kshatriyalikhāmaņi-valanādu, the income of eight thousand nine hundred and forty-three kalam, two tani, (one) kuruni and one nāli of paddy accruing from the payment of land assessment on ninety-seven (vēli), two mã, one and a half kāni, one mundirigai; kil (i.e. 1/320) of three mā, three käni, and one mundirigai and kil (i.e. 1/320) of half and two mä of land, inclusive of those that had ceased to be pallichchanda and exclusive of those that had been removed in survey, which formed the village of Anaimangalamh in Pattana-kurram (a sub-division) of Kshatriyasikhamaņi-vaļanādu shall be entered in the (retenue) register as a tax-free palichchanda from the twentyfirst year of our reign) and the taxes paid over to the palli in the Chūļāmaņivarma-vihāra which (as aforesaid) is being erected by the Kadara king at Nagapattanam in Pattana-kurram (a subdivision) of Kshatriyasikbāmaņi-valanādu, (this) our order was written by Amudap Tirttakaran, the beadman of Viļattur in Avūr-kurram (a sub-division) of Nittavinoda-vaļanādu, who writes our orders, signed by the superintendents of our writs (viz.,) Krishnan Råman alias MummadicholaBrahmamārāyan of Keraļāntaka-chaturvēdimangalam in Veņņādu (a sub-division) of Uyyakkondar-valanādu, Irāyiravan Pallavayan alias Mummadichõla Pošan, (a native) of Araisūr in Pambunikūrram (a sub-division) of Nittavinoda-valanādu and Vélān Uttamachölan alias Maduråntaka Müvēndavēļān (a native) of Paruttikkuļi in Nenmali-nādu (a sub-division) of Arumolidēva-vaļanādu, and was issued : and in accordance with it, it was ordered to be entered in the accounts by our Secretaries Aruran Aravanaiyān alias Parākramachõla-Mavēndavēļān, Tattan Sēndan alias Sembiyan-Müvēndavēlān (and) Mäppēran Popkāri (a native) of Arunkupram, the arbitrators Paramēsvara-Bhatta-Sarvakratuyājin of Pullamangalam and Dāmõdata-Bhattan of Kadalangudi, our
