________________ INTRODUCTION yanasūtra. Out of the six mss., the two are palm-leaf mss. and the remaining four are paper mss. Regarding one ms. which is given the sign so I am not able to decide correctly as to which this ms. is. À 9 -- This is the palm-leaf ms. belonging to the Sanghavīpādā Jaina Jñāna-bhandāra, Patan. In the catalogue entitled 'PattanasthaJaina-Bhāndāgāriya-grantha-sūci', published by the Oriental Institute Baroda, it is listed under No. 10 (2). But in the new list of the Bhandāra it is listed under No. 4 (3). I utilised the photocopy developed from the microfilm of this ms. As in the published catalogue the size of the ms. is not recorded, I could not mention it here. It contains 106 folios. Each side of the folio has 4 to 7 lines. Folios 21, 24, 41, 47, 63 and 76 have only three lines. Each line has 62 to 66 letters. The first side of the first folio is blank. There ends the Uttaradhyayanasūtra in the second side of the last folio which is numbered 106. After the end of the text of the Uttarādhyayanasūtra there occurs a colophon. For the text of the colophon refer to Gujarati Introduction, p. 17. This colophon is printed in the catalogue. Therein we find prined 'samvat 1179'. But it should be 'samvat 1189'. Though this part is seen mutilated in the photocopy, the last two units of the complete figure, which we can clearly decipher, are '89'. From the colophon we gather that paramasrāvaka Pradyumna, a resident of Prantija, his wife Vellikā and other leading persons like Nemi got this ms. copied by the copyist Yakşadeva and presented it to two nuns-Marudevī-ganini and Bālamati-ganini-for study; they did it in order to be free from karmans as also to cause good to others. I have accepted at the concerned places letters a, a, a, 3, 4, etc. in this critical edition, following the version of this ms. Among all the mss. I utilized this is the most important one. So, I would like to point out the special features of this ms. They are as follows: 1. The readings which I have accepted and are yielded by og ms. only: (a) Those accepted readings in the text, on which I have written foot-notes 5 (p. 103), 1 (p. 157), 7 (p. 169) and 6 (p. 295). (b) Those accepted readings in the text, which exactly tally with the readings found in the Cūrni and on which I have written foot-notes 18 (p. 97) and 1 (p. 98). (c) That accepted reading in the text, which exactly tallies with the reading found in the Cūrni, Päiyaţika and Nemicandriya-tīkā and on which I have written the footnote 9 (p. 111).
