79 - This is the printed edition published by Agamodaya Samiti, Surat. This edition contains the Avaśyakasūtra along with the Vstti by Ac. Haribhadrasūri.
The present volume contains the text of three Āgamas, viz., the Daśavaikälikasūtra, the Uttarādhyayanasūtra and the Āvaśyakasūtra. For the subject-matter of these three Āgamas, readers are requested to study the contents (Visayānukrama) written in Sanskrit. Scholars have written much about these three Āgamas. Readers may consult their works. I have no time to prepare even the list of books and articles discussing the subject-matter, etc., of these Agamas. There is no one to help me in the work of critically editing the text of Agamas allotted to me. I alone shoulder the responsibility. I poignantly feel the loss of Munirăja Shri Punyavijayaji. In short, I am to carry out the task relating to the first and the second volume of the Vyākhyāprajñapti. And, if possible, I wish to prepare the press-copy of the Payanna-Prakīrņaka Āgamas. All the Payannās are critically edited by Agamaprabhākara Muniraja Shri Punyavijayaji and some of them are written in his own handwriting. Of course, the learned Muni Shri Jambuvijayaji and eminent Indologist Pt. Dalsukhbhai Malvania inspire and encourage me to carry out this onerous task.
As we have already stated at the outset, Munirāja Shri Punyavijayaji himself noted down variants, selected readings to be accepted in the body of the text and prepared the press-copies of the Daśavaikälikasūtra and the Avaśyakasūtra. The text of these two sütras printed in this volume is totally based on these press-copies. In the absence of Late Munirāja Shri Punyavijayaji it is difficult for me to furnish the specially important information regarding the critical edition of these two Agamas. So, I have not written a note on this topic. But as I have edited the text of the Uttarādhyayanasūtra, I give below the useful information regarding its original recension and critical edition.
While critically editing the text of the Uttaradhyayanasūtra. on the basis of the mss. already described, I found that many of the sutra-padas which are commented upon or are noted by commentators as variants yielded by different mss. or recensions are not available in the mss. utilised by me. The detailed account of this point is as follows:
