________________ Chief Editorial In the modern age of information and communication, the distance among the countries has become less. People are overwhelmed with the curiosity of knowing the culture. civilization, religion and social customs of other countries, but minimum linguistic knowledge is a hinderance to it ..The transcodertal cu puc!? Divya Dhvan) of Lord Mahavir was omnilinguistic in character but religious and spiritual leaders of Jain Sangh (Acharyas) created abundant literature in the respective regional spoken languages of their regions. For a long time, the Jain literature had been written in 'Prakrit' & 'Sanskrit languages which was accepted by contemporary people in general. Afterwards, it was written in Apabhransha and Kannada In the 17th and 18th century, the literature was written by the regional learned Bhattarakas and Pandits in Dundari', the language of Rajasthan, also. In the 20th century, the Hindi translation of the number of the original scriptures of Prakrit, Sanskrit and Apabhransha languages was esented abundantly and by this means the knowledge contained in our scriptures was revealed to the people in general, In this direction, Manikchand Jain Granthmala-Mumbai, Jain Sanskriti Sanrakshak Sangh-Solapur, Bharatiya Gyanapeeth-Delhi, Jain Sangh-Mathura and Digambar Jain Trilok Shodh Sansthan-Hastinapur have done a lot of praise-worthy work. By the attempts of many brilliant persons like Barrister Champat Rai Jain, Justice J.L. Jaini, Babu Kamta Prasad Jain. Pandit Sumerchanda Diwakar, Dr. A.N. Upadhye etc. the literature was also written in English language, the one which is mostly used in many parts of the world But due to the complexity of Jain terminology and the lack of similarity in its English translation by different leamed persons, this task had become more complicated. At one end, due to the migration of Jain followers to American and Europian countries, the need of revealing the different aspects of Jain philosophy and literature in English language in simple and easily understandable style was being experienced & at the other end, for the origination of such literature in the new style, a prime need was being experienced for the compilation of an up-to-date Jain Dictionary, so that there may be uniformity and clarity in the English terminology of Jain literature. II has also been experienced many times that a number of aspirant transfators and leamed persons become disinterested in such type of work due to the unavailability of authentic English terminology of Jalr words, [16]
