________________ THE SANKHYA PHILOSOPHY 15 sole means of liberation58. Even meditation is not the direct cause of liberation, though it is useful as a secondary cause, for it removes desire which really hinders knowledge59. So it is worth practising which can be done by stopping all modifications of the Minds. This is done by धारणा, आसन and स्वकर्म-restrain, posture and the fulfilment of duties61. By restrain I mean the restrain of breath by means of expulsion and retention under certain rules62. By posture is meant the peculiar position in sitting which being steady gives pleasure63, and by the fulfilment of the duties is meant the performance of actions prescribed for one's religious order64. This meditation can be acquired only through act and 373298-dispassion and constant practice65. Through meditation knowledge is acquired. But if misconception interferes bondage will be the result. What is this misconception ? It is fivefold fall, afinal, TT, and a full-ignorance, egoism, attachment, aversion and fear of dissolution 66. Why should this misconception play its part at all ? Simply because the powers called gfè and Para are impeded and hence arises the disability which causes misconception. Much can be said with reference to these powers of ge and the. But our time will not permit us to go into any details67. We shall come to some of them when we shall talk on the Yoga philosophy. 58. SS 3.25 59. SS 3.30 60. SS 3.31 61. SS 3.32 62. SS 3.33 63.
