‘Srāvagi’ - Once Upādhyāya Amara Munijee was passing through South-Bihar, now Jhārakhand. He came to hear a sentence uttered by a shopkeeper to a street-dog moving near about his shop.
“Dūra hata śrāvagi'. Having heard this sentence he wondered how a Jaina word ‘śrāvagī', the changed form of the word 'Śrāyaka', was being used for a dog. The origin and meaning of 'Srāvagi' were not known to the shopkeeper. He was uttering that word simply because that was in use from the long past. But it may be inferred that the wrong meaning might have been given to 'Grāvagī' by the Vedic religious teachers in order to humiliate the Jainas. Saying of Brāhamaņa
Haribhadra, a Brāhmana scholar has said that the entrance in a Jaina temple is much more dangerous than being killed by a mad elephant. So
ne should never go to any Jaina temple. This is nothing but jealousy of the Vedic scholar against Jainism. Envy is the mother of violence. One can very easily assign that under evaluation of one religion by another religion is a sort of violence. Violation of Ascetic Code of Conduct
Violation of the ascetic code of conduct by monks and nuns directly or indirectly causes violence in the religious field which can be identified in the following forms - Attachment
Although, while accepting monkhood a person renounces all his worldly relations, now a days monks and nuns are found suffering from different types of attachment, such as -
a) Attachment with former family members - Even after being an ascetic, monks and nuns are found attached with their former family members. If possible they help them in various family affairs by providing them money or material. They help them in their business, service, marriage, academic achievements etc. They keep themselves always in contact with them through letters and telephones. They keep soft corners for them in their hearts.
b) Attachment to Dwelling place - Ascetics are seen very much attached to their Matha, Āśrama, Sthānaka etc. as an ordinary man is attached
