Some valuable illustration of the latter subject is to be found in the Calcutta Quarterly Magazine?: some historical notices obtained from the inscriptions at Abú occur in the last volume of our Researches, whilst a novel and rather comprehensive view of Jain literature is contained in the Catalogue of Manuscripts collected by the late Colonel MACKENZIE'. From this latter authority we learn that the literature peculiar to Jainas comprises a number of works peculiar to the sect, the composition of their own writers, and on a variety of subjects".
