________________ को COSMOLOGY OLD AND NEW 58 same view in the following gathās of Pañcāstikāya-sāra: जीवा पुग्गलकाया आयासं अत्थिकाइयां सेसा । अमया अत्थित्तमया कारणभूदा हि लोगस्स ।। जेसि अत्थसहाओ गुणेहि सह पज्जएहि विविहेहि । जे होंति अत्थिकाया णिप्पण्णं जेहि तेल्लोक्कं ॥ अण्णोण्णं पविसंता दिता ओगासमण्णमण्णस्स । मेलंता वि य णिच्चं सगं सभावं ण विजहति ।। 138 (The souls, the material bodies, the space, and the remaining two, viz., dharma and adharma are the eternal existences which constitute the universe. They are called astikayas. Astikayas are those which manifest themselves in various forms through their numerous qualities and modifications. They fill all the three worlds, i.e., they are the constituent parts of the universe. The five astikäy as though manifesting themselves in various forms maintain their permanent character and together with 'Time' constitute the six dravyas.) In Svetāmbara Nandi-sutra, the same idea is very clearly expressed as : पंचत्थिकाए न कयाइ नासी, न कयाइ नत्थि, न कयाइ न भविस्सइ, भुवि च, भवइ य, भविस्सइ य, धुवे नियए सासए अक्खए अव्वए, अवट्ठिए, निच्चे अरुवी । 139 The great commentator Pujyapada Acarya comments on this sutra as follows: नित्यं ध्रुवमित्यर्थः । धर्मादीनि द्रव्याणि गतिहेतुत्वादिविशेषलक्षणद्रव्यार्थादेशादस्तित्वादिसामान्यलक्षणद्रव्यार्थादेशाच्च कदाचिदपि न व्ययन्तीति नित्यानि । इयत्ताऽव्यभिचारादवस्थितानि । धर्मादीनि षडपि द्रव्याणि कदाचिदपि षडिति इयत्त्वं नातिवर्तन्ते । न विद्यते रूपमेषामित्यरूपाणि, रूपप्रतिषेधेन तत्सहचारिणां रसादीनामपि प्रतिषेधः 1140 (These dravyas are eternal and unchanging in their charac 138.
