________________ the Vidyādharas. The next morning Dandin began to narrate the story of Avantigundari to his friends. WORKS OF DANDIN. In the verse, "त्रयोऽमयस्त्रयो वेदास्त्रयो देवास्त्रयो गुणाः । त्रयो दण्डिप्रबन्धाश्च त्रिषु लोकेषु विश्रुताः ॥" Rājasekhara indicates that Dandin is the author of three works and they are all very well known. But scholars are divided on the identity of these three. Dagakamāracarita and Kāvyādarsa are taken to be the works of Dandin by most people. It is about the third that there is a wide difference of opinion. * Some people observe that the verse, "लिम्पतीव तमोऽङ्गानि वर्षतीवाजनं नमः । असत्पुरुषसेवेव दृष्टिविफलतां गता ॥" । is seen both in Kāvyādarsa and Mrcchakatika and so the third work of Dandin must be the Mịcchakatika. This view is untenable because we see the same: verse occuring also in Bhāsa's Bālacarita and Caradatta and if we take Mrcchakatika to be Dancin's work, on the same ground, these two also must be taken to be his works. Some others take Chhandoviciti to be the third work of Dangin. They base their conclusion on the mention of the Chhandoviciti in the verse, Vide, P. V. Kane, History of Sanskrit Poetics, 1951, pp. 87 ff.
