THĀNAM
A word has different forms in Prākrit, and these different forms are used, too, in the Agamas. Some scholars, engaged in the editing work of the Āgamas, have stressed upon that the uniformity in the form of words should be brought up. We have not adopted this method of cditing. Although accepting the sameness of the sound 'na' and 'ra', only 'na' has been used in all the places, the principle to bring up uniformity in different forms everywhere has not been observed. In 3/373 two forms 'Sugati' and Suggati' are found; in 3/375 'Sogata', 'Sugata' and 'Suggata', three forms are found. We have adopted them as they are. The authors are frec in their usages. As they are not the bondsmen of the rule of uniformity, to try to bring uniformity in the editing-work does not seem desirable.
The Agamas contain the usages of different languages and syllable changes. In bringing up uniformity in them, the probability to forget the multiformity may arise. 'Wayenam' as well as 'Kamasā' both the forms are used. Andaya' as well as 'Andagā for 'Andajah' and 'Kammabhumiya' as well as "Kammabhūmigā' for "Karmabhumijah' both the forms are formed. To keep up the form as found in a particular place is not a fault of editing.
SAMAWÃO
The text redemption of this Sutra is based on three specimens and the Vritti as well. In some places other works, too, have been used to redeem the text. In the specimens of the 'Prakirna Samawāya' (Sutra 234) the reading "Assasene' is not found. This is the name of the father of fourth Cakrawarti. In the absence of it, the arrangement of further names becomes inconsistent. In the Sangraha Gathas of the said Sūtra, the name 'Padmottara' is in excess. It has been taken as a recension. The reading 'Assascne' is found in the Awaśvaka Niryukti (399). Basing on it *Assasenc' has been adopted as the text-reading.
In the Sangraha Gatha of the Prakirna Samawäya (Sūtra 230) BaldevaVasudeva's father's name are given. Basing on the Sthānānga (9/19) and the Awaśvaka Niryukti the amendment has been carried out. The name of the third Baladeva-Vasudeva's father is 'Rudda', but the manuscript of the Vritti of Samawävänga mentions it as 'Soma' instead of 'Rudda'. In fact, 'Rudda' should follow Soma'.
