As soon as the operator begins to operate by passes or by a brush made of certain kinds of feathers (peacock feathers are used in India, the patient feels that something is coming to him; he feels a warmth or coolness, which must be the result of something ; he feels that something is entering his body, and when his cure is effected he even feels that something is going away from his body; and so far as the testimony of the patients themselves is concerned there is some ground to believe that a magnetic fluid is passing from one to another. When we shake hands with some persons we feel satisfied with the contact. What are these likes and dislikes? What is the cause of the feeling of pleasure or of hatred ? On the lowest plane of physical existence they may be the result of some state of the body, but on the higher plane they do not. Under ordinary circumstances these emanations mixing with our body produce either pain or pleasure. If the atmosphere is hot and sultry we feel pain and it is disagreeable to us, because the material things of the world have something to do with our mental nature. If this is true of the material particles the subtle particles certainly must influence us to a greater degree. As to the existence of a magnetic fluid, there is no doubt, and when it is passing from one body to another, the mixing of the magnetism of one person with that of another depends on the spiritual condition of both of these persons.
