________________ प्राकृत-सूक्तरतमाला। An iguorant bird is caught by a bait of a few grains of corn offered without affections, the entrapping of the wise, however, is not to be effected by anything other than the manifestation of good faith. मरण-सम नत्थि भयं दारिद-समो परिभवो नत्थि। पंथ-समा नत्थि जरा खुहा-समा वेअणा नत्थि ॥ १७३ ।। मरणसमं नास्ति भयं दारिद्रयसमः परिभवो नास्ति । पथिसमा नास्ति जरा क्षत्समा वेदना नास्ति ॥ १७३ ।। There is no terror like death, no humiliation like poverty, no fatigue (lit : decrepitude ) like that of walking on foot, (lit: way-faring), no pain like that of hunger. लवण-समो नत्थि रसो विनाण-समो बंधवो नत्थि । धम्म-समो नत्थि निही कोह-समो वइरिओ नत्थि ॥ १७४ ।। लवणसमो नास्ति रसो विज्ञानसमो बान्धवो नास्ति । धर्मसमो नास्ति निधिः क्रोधसमो वैरी नास्ति ॥ १७४ ।। There is no flavour (lit : taste ) like that of salt, no kinsman like science, no treasure like religion and no enemy like anger.
