________________ zii XLII. Sītā spurned her offer, she threatened to cut her to tiny pieces.. At that juncture Rāvana arrived there. His approaches too failed to get a favourable response from Sita, who advised him to seek protection it the feet or Rama. Enraged at this, Ravana tried to frighten her by means of ferocious animals and hobgoblins, but Sita was unmoved. Vibhiṣaṇa coming to know of this misdeed of Ravana came there and consoled Sita. PAUMACARIU Sandhi. Vibhişana's sympathy for Sită. Lanka circumscribed with the magic fortress Aśāli. { PART Sită narrated her story to Vibhiṣaṇa. He admonished Rāvana to give up Sitā. It angered Rāvana. Rāvana tried to tempt Sītā by showing to her the pomp and riches of Lanka from his aerial car. But Sită considered it worthless. In digust he gave up his fruitless efforts. As his condition grew worse due to intense longing for Sita, the worried ministers built a magic fortress round Lanka in the form of AśālīVidya as a safeguard measure. SUNDARA-KANDA XLIII. Sandhi. Defeat of sham Sugrīva. At Kişkindhapura in the fight that ensued for Tara's sake between Sugrīva and an impostor, the former was worsted. He came to seek help from Khara and Duṣaṇa, but learning about their fate went to Virādhita to make Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa his allies. There Jambūvat narrated Sugriva's misfortune-how even Hanumat failed to tell real Sugrīva from sham Sugrīva. On Sugrīva's request for help, Lakṣmaṇa promised to uproot the impostor and restore Tārā to him. Sugrīva also promised to bring news of Sita within seven days. They marched to Kişkindhapura. The messenger sent to the impostor was insulted. A full-fledged battle was averted by arranging a personal duel between Sugrīva and the impostor. In the duel Sugrīva was defeatedonce more, as Laksmana, failing to distinguish between the two, could not help him. W Jain Education International Now Lakṣmaṇa twanged his bow and the magic power left the impostor. His real form restored, he was at once recognized as the Vidyadhara Sahasagati. The army deserted him and pierced with Rama's arrow he fell dead. Sugriva entered the city in triumph. Rama prayed at the shrine of Candraprabha Jina.
