At Kişkindhapura in the fight that ensued for Tara's sake between Sugrīva and an impostor, the former was worsted. He came to seek help from Khara and Duṣaṇa, but learning about their fate went to Virādhita to make Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa his allies. There Jambūvat narrated Sugriva's misfortune-how even Hanumat failed to tell real Sugrīva from sham Sugrīva.
On Sugrīva's request for help, Lakṣmaṇa promised to uproot the impostor and restore Tārā to him. Sugrīva also promised to bring news of Sita within seven days.
