________________ PREFACE The language of the Sanskrit Prabandhas written by medieval Jaina authors of Western India represents, as it were, a regional style of Sanskrit. A lexicographical study of the same was, therefore, a long-felt desideratum. The Prabandhacintamani of Merutungasūri (1305 A.D.), the Prabandhakośa of Rajasekharasuri (1349 A.D.) and the Puratanaprabandhasangraha-all edited by Muni Jinavijayaji and published in the Singhi Jaina Series-were selected for the purpose, the foremost specimens as they are of the Prabandha literature as such. These studies were published serially in the Journal of the Oriental Institute, VIII. 2, IX. 3-4, X, XI and XII. 1 and were appreciated by scholars of Sanskrit and Prakrit in India and abroad. They are now being presented in book-form as no. 5 of the M. S. University Oriental Series. B. J. S.
