it should be stated that the Vaiseșika has failed to maintain the independent reality of inherence and consequently his attempt to explain the relation of part and whole etc. by means of such an independent real is bound to fail. There seems to be no third alternative to the possibilities -- either relation should be set down as appearance or the Jaina position of identity-indifference be accepted as an ontological truth.
