પ્રયાજકે આ ગ્રંથ તૈયાર કરવામાં લગભગ પદર વર્ષ ખર્ચ્યા છે એ એક જ વાત આ પુસ્તકની મહત્તા સૂચવવા બસ થશે. ભાષાના ક્રમિક વિકાસ કેવી રીતે થયા, કયાકયા કવિએ ભાષાસાહિત્યના અંગને કેવી રીતના શૃંગાર સજાવ્યા અને એ દરેક કવિની પ્રતિભા કેટલી ધારદાર હતી તે બતાવવા માટે પ્રયેાજકે પ્રસ્તાવનામાં કહ્યું છે તેમ ધૂળધેાયા' તરીકેને આનંદ અનુભવી શકે તે જ કઈક પેાતાના અધિકાર સ્થાપી શકે અને અમને જાણીને આનંદ થાય છે કે માત્ર જૈન સાહિત્યસેવકાએ જ નહી' પણ ગુજરાતી સાહિત્યના સર્વ ઉપાસકોએ રા. દેશાઈના આ ગ્રંથ તેમજ તે પાછળના અનન્ય પ્રીતિપરિશ્રમની મુક્તકૐ પ્રશસા કરી છે. જૈન, તા. ૧૮-૩-૧૯૨૮
