DASHALAXAN PARYUSHAN PARVA **
The word Parva denotes, in Jain lexicon, as a festival of Spiritual Awareness that provides a propensity for the manifestation of soul searching truths in the complexities of moral and social ethics of the Jaina way of life. Dashalaxan Paryushan parva is an annual festivity of the it Occurs sometime during the months of August-September. The festivity is marked by many religious and cultural activities for a period of ten days.

DASHALAXAN PARYUSHAN PARVA 1988 CELEBRATIONS ACROSS NORTH AMERICA

Detroit, MI. Jain Society of Detroit celebrated Dashalaxan Paryushan Parva from September 8 - 16,1988 and it was a grand success. On the day of Lord Mahavir's Conception and Dream Ceremony, Arvind Shah of Saginaw was on hand to narrate various dreams and their significance. Auctioning of the dream insignia fetched about cultural activities-dance, drama and devotional successfully presented. The notable participation fasting during the festivities is commendable.
Garner, NC. Jain Study Center of North Carolina organised this year's Dashalaxan Paryushan Parva with a spirit of unity among all Jains in north America. It heralded a beginning of a new era for all Jains on the continent. It provided a unity plank for celebrating Dashalaxan Paryushan incorporating all variations in details on inside cover page.

The celebration was from Saturday, September 10 to Sunday 17, 1988. On the commencing day, two virtues-modesty & straightforwrdness were observed. Next day on Sunday was the conception of Lord Mahavir along with dream plus virtue of contentment were organised on a large scale. Virtues such as truth, self-restraint, austerity, non-attachment and renunciation were observed, one on each day. On Saturday 17, virtue of forgiveness and samvatsari pratikraman were the highlights. Celibacy and parana for the ones who fasted concluded the festivities.

St.Louis, MO Dashalaxan Paryushan was organised by Jain center of St.Louis from September 8 to 16, 1988. Pratikraman, reading of Kalpasutra and bhavana were the daily features during the festivities. Dreams ceremony and Samavatsari Pratikraman were the highlights of the Parva. Dreams insignia auctioning raised about $3,570. Besides, about 24 people did fasting fron one to eight days.
