________________ श्री राष्ट्रसंत शिरोमणि अभिनंदन था। of this the number of animals on the earth is dwindling every year. Some animals are fast disappearing from the world and are put on the list of endangered speed. All this has disturbed the ecological balance and created an environmental crisis. This craving for violence has vitieted human psychology. Feelings of mercy or sympathy are fast disappearing from his mind, and he is indulging constantly in hunting and animal killing. He has now turned to killing human beings as well. Man who loved fellow human beings at one time have now launched wars and world wars. On other major factor causing environmental imbalance is constantly growing population. If people had followed even partially the important principle of celibacy such a situation would not have arisen. Today we are misled by materialism of the west and half-backed understanding of the science of sex and besides that consumption of non-vegetarian food has pushed us on the path of lustful living. The result has been destaterous. Today the danger of population explosion is greater than the danger of nuclear explosion. Due to population explosion man needs more land for farming as well as setting up industries and houses. Man has forgotten that vegetables, plants and other 'Panchastikaya Jivas' are also a part of nature. He started the process of de-forestation to clear the ground for constructing houses. As a result if this forests began to shrink and in places where once there were dense forests and were used as dwelling places for birds and animals we find houses and human habitation today. In the same way man has also destroyed forests to get more wood to be used as fuel. He over looked the fact that trees absorb Carbondioxide and emit life giving Oxygen for us. He even ignored the fact that trees were instrumental in bringing rains and fact that trees were instrumental in bringing rains and they also prevent the process of soil erosion. These were the symbols of greenery, pure air and natural beauty. Today the problem of drinking water is not only a national problem but an international problem. Natural disasters like earth quakes and floods are consequencies of this process. Water level has been going down year by year. The regular cycle of seasons is also disturbed. If we had fully realised the seriousness of our sinful acts of cutting trees causing earth to become a hell, we would never have indulged in this kind of suicidal acts. In the field of agriculture and farming also we have killed those millions of creatures who though consuming a little were saving a lot of our crops, scientific tests have proved it beyond doubt that chemical fertilizers and pesticides and insecticides have filled human blood with a lot of poision. It is for this reason that even the rich and the developed countries of the world have stopped producing them, where as we are still not only producing them but feeling proud for doing so. The real danger lies in the fact that if this is allowed to continue a day will come when the fertility of our land will be totally destroyed. In short we can say that de-forestation has caused ecological imbalance and poisionous material has struck the fertilisy of land. Big industrial plants and factories are also causing a lot of environmental pollution through their manufacturing processes. We point rosy pictures of industrial and technological progress but we forget that by using different types of fuels for generating power, electricity etc. we are speeding immense pollution. The smoke emitted by the factories rises to the sky and pollutes, the environment, the water affluents of these हेमेन्द्र ज्योति* हेमेन्द्र ज्योति 136 हेमेन्द्र ज्योति* हेगेन्द ज्योति al Educatemat
