It can safely be inserred here in this con::ection that the subsidence of the seven energies of karma is the primary requisite of obtaining a true insight. There are two divisions of this stage Damely, first, when other people can know that one is mistaking a false view of things for a true one, is misapprehending an object or event and secondly, where such detection is not possible although one may still continue in this state. A Jaina sloka says : "As a man blind from birth is not able to say what is ugly and what is beautiful, so a man in the mithyatva gunasthanaka cannot determine what is real ind what is false." The second stage appears when the soul, whirling round and round in the cycle of existence, loses some of its crudeness and ignorance and rises to the state called granthibheda and learns to distinguish first between what is false and what is right, as opposed to the first stage where no such distinction is possible, being itself confined 631
