________________ PART I. ENGLISH TRANSLATION WITH INTRODUCTION. BY JAGAT PERSHAD M. A., B. SCC. I. E. "The Eight Presents—This is a free but full, expressive and faithful rendering in English by Mr. Jagat Dershad M. A, B. Sc. C. I. E., of Ashta-Pahuda, the extremely helpful treatise on jaina philosophy in Prakrit by Kunda Kunda Acharya. Kunda Kunda has, as stated by the author, the warmth and fervour of an original author who was a saint, a sage, a poet and a preacher, all combined, and who writes not merely to instruct but also to convince, move elevate his readers. The treatise is divided into eight chapters; faith, scripture, Conduct, Enlightenment, Realization, Emancipation, Insignia and Virtue. A condensed and yet exhaustive presentation of the subject matter in the introduction has very greatly exhanced the value of this brochure. The learned translator has very aptly observed that the differences between the Digambara and Swetambara sects relate only to some trivial details in the daily routine prescribed for monks, which do not affect any principle what ever. It is a very useful book for jainas and non jainas who are interested in the study of the Principles of jain philosophy, and is available from the "Jain Orphanage society, Darya Ganj, Delhi." Jaina Gazette.
