________________ with an INSA project (1992-95) Prof. L. C. Jain has written five volumes on 'The Mathematical Content of Digambara Jaina Texts of Karnānuyoga group.' Now without going in much details, I am mentioning few points which were earlier discovered by Jainācāryas but still in the books on History of Mathematics, we find wrong informations. The credits are given to other scholars. 1. Fibonnaci Numbers & Fibonnaci Sequences are first found in the Ganita - Sāra - Samgraha of Mahavirācārya (850 A.D.). It is discussed in detail in G.S.S. of 9th c. A.D.18 Process of finding prependiculars & base for fixed C is available in G.S.S., but credit is given to Fibonnacci (1202 A.D.) and Vieta (1580 A.D.)", it is also clear by the name also. Actually credit should be given to Mahavirácārya (850 A.D.). 2. The general formula for combination r!(n-1)! is available in G.S.S. by Mahavira (850 A.D.)20 but credit is given to Herigon (1634 A.D.)21. The theory of combination & permutation is available in many Jaina texts by the name Vikalpa or Bhanga. 3. The general formula for Purmutation is np. = n! (n-r)! is given in the commentory of Anuyogadvāra sutra by Hemchandra.22 while it is mention in the book of Smith that it is invented in Europe in 14 - 15th centuries. 23 Of course the topic of combination & purmutation is one out of 10 topics of mathematical discussions in Jainagamas and the relevent verse परिकम्म ववहारो रज्जु रासी कलासवन्ने। जावंतावति धणो वग्गवग्गो विकप्पोत।24 4. The concept and formula for logarithims is available in the Tiloyapannat125 (2 - 7th centuris) and in the Dhavala commentory of Satkhandagama written by Vtrasena (816 A.D.)26. The formulae which are available - log m.n = log m + log n log m/n = log m - log n log m" = n log m Not only this but the concept of log log and log log log is also 12 Arhat Vacana, January 2000
