________________ of finding proper time and place for religious cerernonies. 14 It does not only put the clear picture but even misguide in some respect. It may be one reason which is less important to others. In this context the remark of Prof. L.C. Jain, s senior historian of Indian Mathematics is more appropriate. He says - Mathematics stood as the magnifiscant croun of the Jaina philosophy. Jaina asectics experimented with their 'sell and evolved mathematical formalism known as 'Lokottara Pranāna'. Their karma theory is a highly developed Mathematical system based on powerful tools of their set theory. The purpose of evolving such theories was to find solutions of the problem of the life and death for the realisation of an endless life full of infinite knowledge. power and bliss. + He again write - There is practically no field in Jainology where mathematics had not stood as crown though its life blood activity in the cellular mechanisn of philosophy and system of eternal &. blissful life.14 Even two centuries back a great Jaina writer Todarmal writes that without the knowledge of Mathematics no one can understand Jainagamas well. Tre Part 16 It is also clear from the subject wise classification system of Jaina literature 1. Prathamānuyoga (gengun) 2. Karanānuyoga (TRUTTET) 3. Caranānuyoga (ERUITGUT) 4. Dravyānuyoga (GOUGAT) Here books related with Karnānuyoga and Dravyānuyoga are of much interest of Mathematicians. In the process of discussion of structure of Universe, we get much information on Geometry, Astronomy, Traditional Arithematics and Algebra in the texts of Karnānuyoga group. The texts of Dravyānuyoga group deals with the philosophy and those contains a lot of information on set theory, System theory etc. In fact no rigid classification is available. There are so many texts like Dhavala which comes in both the group i.e. Karnānuyoga and Dravyānuyoga and have a lot of material of mathematical interest. In connection Arhat Vacana, January 2000
