________________ at present. Now I would like to draw your attention towards some facts which are not available in the existing books on History of Mathematics. The well known books in the field of History of Mathematics are written by Smith?, Belle, Cajorio, Eves", Mohan", Boyer12 & Kline 13. All these books mentions sulva Sutras, Aryabhata, Bramhagupta, Sridhara, Mahavira & Bhaskara. They also mention the contributions of Ramanujam. The books on Indian Mathematics mentions some more names and gives their contribution but even then a lot of ignored due to the unavailability of proper informations to the writter of those books. The situations is more serious regarding Jainas because before 1912 A.D., no one knows about Jaina School of Mathematics. Here I am giving a list of 20 Jainācāryas, who contributed directly or indirectly for the development of mathematics upto 10th cent. A.D. — 1. Ācārya Gunadhara (2-1 C.B.C.) 2. Ācārya Kundakunda (1 C.B.C. -1 C.B.C.) 3. Ācārya Dharasena (1 C.A.D.) 4. Acārya Puspadanta (1 C.A.D.) . 5. Acārya Bhutabali (1 C.A.D.) 6. Ācārya Umāsvāmt (2nd C.A.D.) 7. Ācārya Yativraśabha (2-7 C.A.D.) 8. Ācārya Umasvati (2nd B.C.-6th A.D.) 9. Ācārya Pujyapāda (Devanandi)(539 A.D.) 10. Ācārya Jinabhadra Gani (609 A.D.) 11. Ācārya Akalanka (620-840 A.D.) Acarya Vidyanandi (775-840 A.D.) 13. Ācārya Sridhara (799 A.D.) 14. Ācārya Vfrasena (816 A.D.) Acārya Jinasena (9th C.A.D.) 16. Ācārya Mahavira (850 A.D.) 17. Ācārya Kumudendu (860-880 A.D.) 18. Acarya Silanka (9th C.A.D.) 19. Ācārya Nemicandra Siddhānta Cakravarti (981 A.D.) 20. Ācārya Padmanandi (977- 1043 A.D.) It indicates the importance of Mathematics in Jainsim. Mathematics play an important role in Jainism. But regarding the reason for giving much importance to Mathematics in Jainism. I slightly differ with Prof. B.B. Dutta, a great scholar of Indian Mathematics. He says - The necessity of Jaina priest to learn Mathematics, aries by way Arhat Vacana, January 2000
