BHĀVASAPTATIKA
OF ŚRI YAŠASVATSAGARA

INTRODUCTION The text of Bhāvasaptatika which is published here for the first time, is critically edited on the basis of the three manuscripts. The details of these three manuscripts are as under:
(1) BORI: This refers to the manuscript bearing No. 884/1891-95 belonging to the Government collections of Manuscripts deposited at the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute, Poona.
The manuscript consists of five folios, each of the size 10"X43".
The paper of the manuscript is thin, country made, and yellowish grey. The edges of all the five folios in the manuscript are slightly worn out. The condition of the manuscript is good. The edges of the folios on left and right side are ruled by double red lines; and the borders of the text are marked by three red lines. The ruling is fairly uneven.
Pages la, 16, 2a, 2b, 3a, 36, 4a and 46 have 11 lines each; page 5a has 7 lines and page 5b is blank.
Kathavate, A.B. (Report on the Search for Sanskrit Manuscripts in the Bombay Presidency during the years 1891-95, Bombay, 1901, p. 59) records "lines on each page 21". This, probably, is the error due to the printer's devil. Each line has 35-38 letters.
The text is written in Jaina Devanāgari characters. The handwriting is bold, legible and uniform. The bhale symbol, the headings and the colophons of different topics, the numbers of the verses, the colophon at the end and the danda marks are written in red ink and the text is written in black ink
Folio la begins with the bhale symbol and ends with ycyrfad (v. 8c), folio 16 ends with FIETH (v. 15d), folio 2a ends with
(v. 23a); folio 2b ends with agar (v. 31b); folio 3a ends with if (v. 45d); folio 3b ends with qot: (v. 45d); folio 4c ends with Farifu (v. 57b) and folio 4b ends with fastiach tout (v. 67d).
