________________ It has the play of colour in the throat of the peacok (i.e. has blue tint)1. Mayuratuttham2 is anemletic, an antidote to poison and a destroyer of the whiteness of the skin. The Rasaratna Samuccaya discusses it in detail. This blue vitriol (tuttha or Thutho) can be purified by the saturation with the medicines of Raktavarga. Its defect or impurity is removed by cooking it with clarified butter, etc.,-oily substance3 seven times. Green vitriol gets calcinated in 3 days by the process of mixing it with amalasara gandhak (sulphur) and borax and rubbing it in the juice of the fruit of vadahala and giving it kukkulaputa.4 Rub the powder of green vitriol and 4th part of borax together and drench the whole thing in the oil of Karañjaka for one day and night. Again make its pill and place it in a closed crucible, then heat it, the essence like Virabahut will come out.5 Capala (Possibly Bismuth) It is of four kinds-yellow, while, red and black. That which has the lustre of gold or silver is most appropriate for the fixation of mercury. The last two (red and black) are readily melt, like lac and are usless. Capala melts like tin when heated over fire, hence the name. It can be purified. It is useful in writing and in Sarırakarma and lohakarma. It is helpful to mercury and it is bitter, hot and sweet. It is transparent like alum in its look. Its grain is of six corners, smooth and heavy.7 1. 2. 25 3. Mayurakanthacchāyaṁ bhārāḍhyamatiśasyati, RS. 2/127, Vägbhata.
