pedestrian and highly conventional. There is hardly anything which enlivens his SC. His slokas are easy to understand. At handling elaborate metres he is not so adept. He is guilty at a number of places of the metrical desect called yatibhanga. He profusely uses expletives. Occasionally, we come across similies which are striking10; but the work, as a whole, has value rather for its subject-matter than for its literary merit.
5. THE TITLE OF THE PRESENT WORK
In the course of his introduction 11 to the present work the author tells us that at the request of King Kāmirāja he composed Alankāra-samgraha called ŚC The colophon 12 refers to the title as "Śrgārārņavacandrikā-nāmni alamkāra-saņgrahe....”. From these references it is crystal clear that the author gives
Alanıkāra-sangraha' as the general name to the work and ŚC as the distinguishing appelation. The name Alaskāra-sangraha' consists of two words: (1) alankāra and (2) sangraha. The word alari kāra stands here
