________________ 74: Śramaņa, Vol 62, No. 3, July-September 2011 or that of Kundapur because of the well-known phenomenon of "Poetic exaggeration". Conclusion We can say that, so far, various relevant facts such as descriptions of Mahavira's sojourns, accounts of topography/area, archaeological finds, meanings attached with various words, etc. have been used in isolation. It is necessary to take all available evidence collectively and analyse it thoroughly before arriving at any conclusions. The Jaina community owes it to itself to muster a team of specialists in various disciplines such as History, Archaeology, Linguistics and Jainism. This team of independant experts must scout all the available literature, Jaina and others, rate it chronologically and match it with evidence available through other sources such as archaeological, topographic/geographical,similarity of modern place names etc. There is no doubt that if an honest attempt is made we should be able to zero on to a single place as the most likely place of Mahavira's birth.
