Kāshi: Bhāratiya Jñanapitha. Since the majority of the authors of Rāma-stories in Vimalasûri's tradition belonged to the Svetămbara-sect and in Gunabhadra's tradition to the Digambara-sect, one might consider the first tradition to be Svetāmbara and the second Digambara. However, it is not clear to which sect Vimalasūri himself belonged. Ravişeņa, whose Padınapurāņa is considered to be little more than an extended translation of the Paūmacariyam into Sanskrit, was a Digambara. (The Padmapurāna was edited by Jain: Jain, P. (ed.). 1958-1959. Padamapurana of Ravisenācārya -With Hindi translation, 3 Vols., Jñānapitha Mürtidevi Jain Granthamālā - Samskrit Grantha No. 20, 24 en 26. Käshi: Bhāratiya Jñānapitha). Svayambhudeva belonged to the Yāpanīya-sect, a sect situated between the Svetāmbaras and the Digambaras. This indicates that the Svetămbara-label, which one tends to ascribe to Vimalasūri's trandtion, only applies to the later Rāma-stories in this tradition. Critically edited by Bhayani: Bhayani, H.C.
