________________ (9) Though in the stanza - शकनुपकालाभ्यन्तरविंशत्यधिकाष्टशतमिताब्दान्ते ।। मङगलमहार्थ कारिणि पिङगलनामनि समस्तजनसुखदे ।। ३५ ॥ the word śaka is employed, it cannot be a determining factor, for it is found to have been used along with the words fa77, शालिवाहन and गुप्त of which the first two are the names of kings and the last of a dynasty. These kings are described as 276793 i.e. epoch-makers. Under these circumstances the year 820 may be taken as the year of the Vikrama era. Thus I have come to the conclusion that the completion of the Prasasti was eflected in the year 685 of the śālivāhana saka era. The verbal form a implies that when the Prasasti was written Acārya Gunabhadra was not alive, though he was seen by Acārya Lokasena, his disciple, under the rulegate afara siat: 79463fara siafaqe 15 704:'[ ., 69. 7., p. 112, Benārasa edition]. It is, therefore, clear that before the year 685, Ācārya Guṇabhadra had expired. As we have pushed the date of the great poet, Puspadanta, back to the period prior to the year 705 of the Sālivāhana saka era, and that of Ācārya Guņabhadra back to the period prior to the year 685 of the śālivāhana saka era, they might have been contemporaries and so the great poet, Puspadanta might not have referred to Acārya Gunabhadra or he might not have thought it necessary to refer to him or his work on account of Ācārya Gunabhadra's work being inferior to that of Ācārya Jinasena. Now, let us see whether the word śaka is employed along with the words विक्रम, शालिवाहन and गुप्त. Acārya Yativrsabha is found to have used the word 74 to imply both the Vikrama era and the Sālivāhana era.
