________________ 110 Jain Philosophy in Historical Outline Sambandhoddyota on the Buddhist logician Dharmakirti's Sambandhaparikṣā, Mallavadin who was the author of a commentary on the Buddhist logical treatise Nyāya-vinduṭīkā called Dharmottara-tippanaka, Amṛta Candra Suri who was the author of Tattvärthasara and Devasena Bhaṭṭaraka who was the author of Nayacakra. Abhayadeva Suri who flourished about the beginning of the eleventh century was the author of Vadamahārņava, a treatise on logic and of a commentary on the Sammati-tarkasūtra called Tattvärtha-bodha-vidhāyinī. His contemporaries were Laghusamantabhadra, author of a commentary on the Aṣṭasahasri of Vidyananda called Aṣṭasahasrī-Visamapada tātparya-țīkā, Kalyāṇacandra, author of Pramāṇa-vārtika-tikā, and Anantavirya, author of a commentary on the Parikṣāmukha of Manikya Nandi called Parikṣāmukhapañjikā or Prameyaratnamālā as also a commentary on Akalanka's Nyayaviniscaya called Nyāyaviniscaya-vṛtti. Deva Suri who flourished in the twelfth century was the author of the well known treatise on logic called Pramāṇa-naya-tattvā lokālankära on which he himself wrote an elaborated commentary named Syadvādaratnākara. The former consists of eight chapters dealing with the determination of the nature of valid knowledge, determination of the nature of perception, determination of the nature of recollection, recognition, argumentation and inference, determination of the nature of valid knowledge derived from verbal testimony or scripture, determination of the nature of objects of knowledge, determination of the consequences and fallacies of knowledge, determination of the nature of one-sided knowledge and determination of the right procedure of a disputant and his opponent. Deva Suri's contemporary was the great Hemacandra who was also a keen logician. He was the author of a most important work on logic called Pramāṇamīmāmsā on which he himself wrote a commentary. Of other logicians of the twelfth century mention should be made of Candraprabha Sūri, author of Darśanaśuddhi, Prameyaratnakoşa and Nyāyāvatāravivṛti, Haribhadra Suri (there were more than one Jain scholar of the name), the celebrated author of the Saddarsana-samuccaya, Dasavaikālika-niryukti-tikā, Nyāyapraveśaka-sūtra and Nyayavatara-vṛtti, Pārśvadeva Gaņi, author of a commentary on Nyayapravesa called Nyayapraveśapañjikā, Śrīcandra, author of Nyayaprave sa-tippana which is a super-commentary on the Nyāyapravesavṛtti of Haribhadra, Devabhadra, author of Nyāyāvatāra-țippana, Candrasena Süri, author of Utpada-siddhi-prakaraṇa, and Ratnaprabha Sūri, author of Syadvada-ratnākarāvatārikā.
