CLASSIFICATION OF KARMAS.
longivity and individuality by which it is conventionally singled out from the rest. Of such sets of action-currents of non-injury which individuates and singularises the Jiva for a certain definite period in some definite form comes first ;
V. THE AYUS KARMA.
The word ayus lit. duration, refers to the period of existence in a particular condition. And as the word is used generally to mean duration of life, it is known as longivity. Now the action-currents which determine the duration of existence in any of the four abodes (gatz) of sansar is called -Ayuh karma. It divides itself in the following way,
(i) Devayuh karma-is what determines ones existence in a subtle form in the region of gods to enjoy there the sweets of life for a certain definite period of time.
(ii) Narakayuh karma-is that set of action-currents by reason of which a jiva lives for a certain period of time in a hell which is so called because
of its being devoid of all pleasures.
