Though this transcript comprises only three Adhyayas it is clear from Devasva mibhasya that there are on the whole 12 Adhyayas. The author Devatrata is referred to in the Nirnayasindhu of Kamalakara as well as in the Samskarakaustubha of Anandadeva. His nama suggests that he was a native of Malabar. He is referred to on the 6th page by the words, "qar yara Rateta". Bhavatrata might have been Davatrata's father and probably a com mentator on the Rgveda.
