________________ CONFLUENCE OF OPPOSITES 205 the part of Jinas (conquerors of samsara) is accompanied by the spontaneous ringing of bells in the regions of devas, Well, the explanation of these phenomena is to be found in the fact that the powerful vibra. tions set up by the rending of harmic knots, in consequence of one-pointed dhyana (selfcontemplation), are carried by the 'wireless' medium of a subtle electricity, and iinpinging upon the ethereal matter of the ludras' thrones and bells in the regions of the devas, set them shaking and resounding and reverberating This is the explanation of the shaking of the thrones of the Rulers of the heavens and of the ringing of heavenly bells in the palaces of the devas (residents of the heaven-worlds). (ii) The darkeving of the Sun signifies the loss of the lower inental equipment, i.e., of senseperception and intellectual function. These disappear with the dawn of omniscience, and are no longer needed. Much as we prize our senses and intellect, tiey are really the obstructors of the full blaze of the real, inberent, all-tinbracing knowledge of the soul.
