GOD
Settles the whole point if any one would but reflect on it dispassionately; and it is this that in respect of its properties and functions one spirit is like any other spirit, so that if creative activity be a function of one spirit it must also be a function of every other spirit. Every soul would then be endowed with creative activity, which is not the theologian's case by any means.
All these and greater difficulties than these has the theologian created for himself by adhering to the dead. letter of the text.
I shall cite here some of the holy texts expressive of divine attributes from different scriptures.
(1). "I create evil” (Isaiah, xlv. 7.) (2) "Wherefore I gave them statutes that were not good, and
jadgments whereby they should not live" (Ezekiel, xx, · 25). (3) "It repented the Lord that he had made man ou earth
and it grieved him at his heart” (Genesis, iv. 6). (4) “I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the
iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generations of them that hate me" (Deat. V. 9). “Shall there be evil in a city, and the Lord have not done it” (Amos, III. 6) ? “He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them. He made a way to bis anger ; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence” (Psalms, Ixxviii, 49--50).
