________________ 360 RITUAL and the owner of the heiser of nats. This is the doctrine of Sonship once more in disguise. Before Mahomed, Jesus had preached it to the world, and before him had Hosea declared ; " Ye are the sons of the living God? (Hosea, i, 10). And Hosea had no delusions about this, for we also have it from him : * Yet I am the Lord thy God, from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt kuow no God but me for there is no savioor beside me" (chap. xiii, 4). . St. Paul, too, maintained that as many as were led by the spirit of God were the sons of God (Romans, viii. 14). In Hinduism, too, the curse of Savitri on Indra, ie, Life personified, was that he was to lose his city and station and to be bound in chains. This was modified by Gayatri to the effect that his son would be his liberator. The doctrine of 'son ship' did not, it is cbvious, originate with Jesus who escribed himself clearly as a man in John VIII. 40. Luke (chap, iii. 23) tells us, "And Jeaug himgelf began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli." The brackets are not mine, The element of consusion arises from the ignorance of Naya-Vâda (the differentiation of stand-points). According to the body, the This certainly meant that the burial of the dead wam to be left to those who though alive physically were dead in spirit, in other worde, to those who knew not themselves as spirits. The raising of the dead, or the recurrection from the dead, we also kaow now, means the conquest of death, and not the reising of the dead in the literal sense of the expression.
