________________ 32 PRACTICAL RULES FOR SOUL-CULTURE the acts in the order in which we actually do them in India. We get up early in the morning about 5 o'clock. There is a reason for this. That time considered in relation to the sun and the constellations in the sky is favourable to bring about and continue the harmony which it is our object to accomplish. It is in fact the best time which puts us in a condition fit to accomplish our best desires. All feelings of sluggishness and drowsiness should be thrown off. If perchance it be found very difficult to shake off those feelings, the resut can be accomplished by stopping for a short time the breath both through the mouth and the nostrils. After this we must examine what Tattva is flowing through the nostrils, The philosophy of the Tattvas is indeed very deep. But in a few words it might be said that there are five Tattvas and these are the subtle ethers of which all material things are the compounds. The breath of the body is made up of these five ethers. The first ether is the Akasha; its vibrations are in the form of rising and falling points the soul. Such a substance which cannot be seen, heard, ta sted, smelled or touched, is a substance which need not occupy space, and need not have any taogibility, but it may exist, although it may not have any form, and that substance does not require any space, is intangible and cannot be seen.
