ideographs being, as just observed, designations describing as well as defining what they represent-the active forces, manifesting the results of their operations in and through the individualized forms they desigoate, are, as Elohim, affirmed to coin and the action they prodace; and then to declare the order and approve the outcome of their own functioning activity. Thus the operating forces individualized in Elohim are supposed to say “Let there be combustion !" and then to approve of the induced igneous action.
After this it is stated that 'Elohiin (labdil) caused an antagonism between the Volcanic Action and the Inertia; and called the Volcanic Action (Jon) active condition, and the inertia (Khoshec) Exhausted state"-to which the formula closing each of the successive phases of evolution is added "and it was (Ghere) miugling, and it was (Boker) cleaving, the active condition (Akbad) I burn."
I have already discussed the consecutive phases of the Elobistic Kosmogony, so need not recur to them here. But I then purposely passed over an important feature in the narrative to which I have now to direct special attention. The first described phase of terrestrial evolittion is tetined a-kh'd, "I burn." There had been earlier pbases in the evolution of the planet--those through which it had gained form, mass and elementary constitution. Hence it would not have been correct to call the phase of combustion the "first" phase. It will
