________________ 114 THE SCIENCE OF BREATHING idea of these things. It is just like a being come out of the sea and having only the sense of touch, in suddenly endowed with taste, sight, smell and hearing, it would be astonished at the things it saw and would not believe its own senses. We think that we are going to get everything through the powers which we know that we actually possess at the present time, and that we cannot do anything outside this; but when we study human nature from the occult standpoint there are many wonderful things. From the stand point of the mordern scientists all the powers of the body can be developed by developing the body physically. They do not know ihat there are forces higher than the physical or mental, that moral acts evolve wonderful powers, and that these forces are greater, higher and more important than the physical forces. A great scientist writes in his work on the physical sciences, that if a physical object is to be transmitted from one place to another by some unknown power it must generate a certain amount of heat, which would destroy it in the transit if the motion were swift enough; but a corresponding force in the moral plane may not generate heat at all. We can do the same thing by moral force which we can do on the physical plane only by spending a large amount of heat. We say that the result gained from the study of moral forces is altogether different from the result derived from the study of physical forces. We use them for bringing out the spiritual nature, and practise Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
