first 'Porasi'-a period of three hours (lit. human shadow used to indicate time) engrossed in the study of sacred texts (here the rest to be supplied §9, down to) entered the city of Padalasanda by the southern gate and saw that very man suffering from itching (here the rest to be supplied exactly as above, down to) passed his time by making himself engrossed in self-control and penance Then on a third occasion that Goyama at the time of breaking the two days' fast (here the rest to be supplied exactly as above, down to) entered the city of Padalasanda by the western gate and saw that very man who was suffering from itching (here the rest to be supplied). Then on a fourth occasion at the time of breaking the two days' fast he entered through the northern gate (here the rest to be supplied as above) and saw that very man. Then the following idea occured to him: "Oh this man (here the rest to be supplied §4, down to) of acts done previously, and spoke thus: "Truly, oh, Venerable Sir! I, at the time of breaking the two days' fast (here the rest to be supplied as above, down to) for wandering for alms went to where the city of Padalasanda was and having done so I entered Padalasanda by the eastern gate. There I saw a man who was suffering from itching (here the rest to be supplied as above, down to) making his livelihood by begging. Then on the second occasion of breaking the two days' fast I entered through the southern gate. Then
