makes It dead sure that Väsī is a tool of carpente sused in cutting the wood.
3. In another authoritative work on lexicography, Hemachandra mentions the word Väsi as a synonym of the word Mștsā. The Anekārtha Samgraha giving the various meanings of Mstsā states the following versel :
This verse states that the word Mrtsā is used in the sense of Vāsī as well as Sumrttikā. Now, commentator Mahendra Sūri (who is a pupil of the author), in his commentary called Kairvakara Kaumudi explains the word thus:"2 (मत्सा )
It means that Mộtsā and Väsi denote a tool for cutting the wood. The other meaning of Mytsă is not useful for us here and, therefore, we may omit its discussion.
4. Modern lexicographer and well-known scholar of Prakrit language, Pt. Hargovind Das Seth, in his Pāia-Sadda-Mahannavo, a Prakrit Hindi Disctionary, mentions : "वासि, स्त्री ( Skt.
___Again, explaining the meaning of Vasi, he writes,4 वासी, स्त्री (वासी) वसूला, बढ़ई का एक अस्त्र ; (पण्ह १, १; पउम १४, ७८; कप्प; सुर १, २८; औप०)।
