P. 1-25: The necessity of Jaina Studies : importance of the Jaina
Canon for the knowledge of Buddhist doctrine and vocabulary (ex. asava, målavihāra, tai, P.3-6); richness of the uninterrupted tradition of Jaina Literature; problems concerning the "original". language of the Jaina Canon and discussion of the term "Ardha-Māgadbi".
