दंसणगाराचरितं किंचिवि रात्थि दु अचेदणे काये । तह्मा किं घादयदे चेदयिदा तेसु कायेसु ॥ ३७३ ॥ दर्शनज्ञानचरित्रं किञ्चिदपि नास्ति त्वचेतने काये । तस्मात् किं घातयति चेतयिता तेषु कार्येषु ॥ ३७३ ॥
373. There is no belief, knowledge (or) conduct whatsoever in the unconscious body; therefore what does the conscious soul destroy in those bodies.
णाणस्स दंसणस्स य भणिदो घादो तहा चरितस्त । ति कोऽवि पुग्गल दव्वे घादो दु सिद्दिट्ठो ॥ ३७४ ॥ ज्ञानस्य दर्शनस्य भणितो घातस्तथा चरित्रस्य । नापि तत्र कोऽपि पुद्गलद्रव्यस्य धातो निर्दिष्टः ॥ ३७४ ॥
374. And destruction is enjoined of ( wrong ) belief, (wrong) knowledge and (wrong ) conduct ; but the destruction of any kind of the above said material things is never enjoined.
Commentary.
A mere withdrawal from sense-gratification is not renunciation. Outward objects are not the primary causes of attachment, or of wrong belief, wrong knowledge and wrong conduct. They are mere auxiliary causes.
जीवस्स जे गुणा केई रात्थि ते खलु परेसु दव्वेसु । ता सम्मादिस्सिरात्थि रागो दु विससु ॥ ३७५ ॥ जीवस्य ये गुणाः केचिन्न सन्ति खलु ते परेषु द्रव्येषु । तस्मात्सम्यग्दृष्टेर्नास्ति रागस्तु विषयेषु ॥ ३७५ ॥
375. Whatever attributes are peculiar to the soul, they certainly are not found in the non-soul substances. Therefore in the right believer, there is no attraction for the senseobjects.
Commentary.
Sense-objects are material. They do not possess consciousness. Indifference and non-attachment to them is Renunciation. One is
