આ સ્વસ્તિક અને નવાવર્ત માંગલિક ચિહન હોવા સંબંધી કલિકાલસર્વજ્ઞ શ્રી હેમચન્દ્રાચાર્ય આ પ્રમાણે ઉલ્લેખ કરે છે.

સિન્હનદીની ખીણમાંના મેહન જે ડારની શાળામાંથી કેટલીએક જાતના સીલો મળવા પામ્યા છે, જેનો સમય શેધ ખોળ ખાતાના પુરાતત્ત્વના વિદ્વાનોએ ૫૦૦૦ વને નક્કી કરેલ છે. આમાં સ્વસ્તિક પણ મળી આવેલ છે. આ મળી આવેલ સ્વસ્તિકો
બે પ્રકારના છે જે સર જોન માર્શલસાહેબ તરફથી બહાર પાડેલ વોલ્યુમ ૨ પૃષ્ઠ ૪૨૬માં નંબર ૫૦૦ થી પ૧૫ સુધી બતાવેલા છે. આ બે જાતના સ્વસ્તિક પૈકી સીધે
વસ્તિક અદ્યાપિ પર્વત જેનેએ સ્વીકારેલ છે અને એનાથી ઉધે સ્વસ્તિક આજીવિકેએ (દિગંબર જેનેએ) પ્રહણ કરેલ છે. આવા રવરિત એ ધાર્મિક ચિહનની નીશાની છે જેને જૈનોએ સિહની આકૃતિ તરીકે ઉપયોગ કરેલ છે.
"The Swastika is called by the Jaius Sathia, who give it the first place among the eight chief auspicious marks of their faith. It would be well to repeat here, in view of what follows, the Jain version of this symbol as given by Pandit Bhagwanlal lodraji (The Hathigumpha inscriptions, Udayagiri Caves, P. 7), who was told by a learned Yati that the Jain believe it to be the figure of Siddha. They believe that, according to a man's karma, he is subject to one of the following four conditions in the next life-he either becomes & god or Dera, or gues to hell (naraka) or is born again as a man or is born as a lower animal.
But a Siddba in his next life attaing to Nirvana and is therefore beyond the pale of these four conditions. The Swa. stika represents such a Siddha in following way. The point or Bindu in the centre from which the four paths branch out is Jiva or life, and the for paths symbolize the four conditions of life. But as a Siddha ja free from all these, the end of ench line is turned to show that the four states are closed for him."
