________________ ANNUAL MEETING OF JAIN FEDERATION OF NORTH AMERICA DELIBERATIONS IN BRIEF Buffalo, NY. The Annual Meeting of the officers of the Federation and the directors, the representatives of the member Societies/Centers, was held in Buffalo, NY, June 04, 1988. Various reports covering many activities of the past year and their assessments were presented to the meeting. Dr Salgia, President of the Federation, presented the report on the Amendments to the constitution. Dr Sulekh Jain, Secretary, gave a detailed report of the various activities the Federation had undertaken and realised. The treasurer, Dr Surendra Singhvi being absent, the financial report was presented by the President. "The Visiting Scholars" agenda was discussed in depth as to establish the criteria for sponsoring, programming and to represent a broad spectrum of subject specifics, languages and regions. With these guidelines, a committee was formed to formulate the best working parameters and make recommondations. Nominations to appiont Directors-at large were received, and four: Mr Pramod Jhaveri from Cincinnati, OH, Dr Premchand Gada from Lubbock, TX, Dr Harak Dedhia from Morgantown, W VA and Dr Dhiraj Shah from Grand Island, NY were appointed. Two resolutions were passed congratulating Jain Society of Southern California, USA and Jain Samaj of Europe, Leicester, UK for having built Chaityalayas in their respective cities. Another resolution was passed in regard to the assembly of Jains at Leicester, England to organiss a conference of all Jains world wide during the Chaityalaya inaguaration in July 1988. The resolution called upon the organisers to show; "We should continue to work in harmony in a unified way throught the world...include unity in the formation of organisations, their charters and their names. Working with this theme, the Board of Directors of Jain Federation of North America unanimously passed the resolution to appeal JAIN SAMAJ EUROPE to avoid the duplication of the name THE WORLD JAIN CONGRESS and its charter as it already exists in Delhi, India." The Annual Meeting was hosted by the Jain community of Buffalo, NY. Dr Dhiraj Shah, Ravi Pahade, Dr Kewal Jain, Dr Jagat Jain, John D'arcangelo, Dr Arun Jain and many more worked for the success of the Meeting. Chaityalayas, the Jain places of worship and study, are not the bare physical locale but the median venue where social ethics and values of life, as governed by Jain gospel, are consummated.
