________________ Severseas JAIN EKATA SANDESH NEW QUARTERLY IN HINDI Ever since Jain Religion was fractured into communities commanded by thier respective munis, sometime in 79 - 81 A.D., there was a third section of the Jain community, the Yapaniya, whose Gurus tried to bring about commonality among the whole Jaina community. The modern leadership including the Acharyas, Saints, Scholars and the intellectuals from the whole Jaina community, especially the Jain community in north America, have adhered to the theme of Jaina Unity, and their efforts are now being augumented by the establishment of Jain Ekata from Bombay, India. The publishers of India Jain Monk Chaturmasa Schedule has now launched a new quartely, Jain Ekata in Hindi, from Bombay. The first issue was published in May 1988. The foundation and theme for this new magazine is Jain unity, equality and organisation. The founde, from schedule All Jains world over will welcome and hope its English version will too soon follow. UNIVERSITY GRANTS COMMISSION INDIA TO MAKE PRAKRIT AT PAR WITH SANSKRIT Varanasi, UP.During the Golden Jubilee celebrations of PV Research Institute of Benaras Hindu University, Dr S.C.Murthy, Vice Chairman of the UGC, called upon the philosophers and scholars to view Prakrit, the language of the Agamas of the Jainas, as a language that is essential to enrich Sanskrit. Further he added that the UGC will soon recognise Prakrit at par with Sanskrit. Dr Sagarmal Jain, director of PVRI, was highly successful in organising the golden jubilee celebrations and the All India Prakrit Conference. FOUNDATION LAYING FOR SAINT PUJYAPADA EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE Kanakagiri, KA. Saint Pujyapada, one of the ancient Jain Acharyas in the history of souther India, who lived during 450 - 513 A.D., was a instrumental in the development of social awareness and religious ethics in India's past. He achieved it through his unparallel contribution's to India's grammer, literature and medicine. The ancient Indian medicine record Saint Pujyapada as the pioneer in the field of surgery and its later development. Kanakagiri in southern Karnataka has a secial connotation in Jain ecclesiastical chronicle. It is here Saint Pujyapada undertook sallekhan. This importance has been again restored to Kanakagiri as Muni Chetanasagar has contemplated to make Kanakagiri a Jain Spiritual Shrine. On June 19,1988 a grand function was organised here on the occasion of foundation laying for the proposed Saint Pujyapada Educational Institute. Many dignatories attended the function. The prominent ones were Tarachand Pahadia of Madras, Nirmal Kumar Srthi, President of Jain Mahasabha, India, sri Charukirti Bhattarak of Sravanabelagola Mutt, A.R. Nagaraj and A.N.Chandrakirti. Sri Bhattarak announced on the occasion that an affiliatory Jain Mutt of Sravanabelagola will be established at Kanakagiri.
