________________ TWO WERE INITIATED TO JAIN RELIGION Hombuja, KA. Sri Devendrakirti Bhattarak of Hombuja Jain Mutt, where Lord Parshvanath and Deity Padmavati have been reigning here for over 1200 years, is well known for his active role in the development and propogation of Jain Religion: its doctrines and its followers. He has undertaken various community endevours both at home and abroad. It is recalled here that Sri Devendrakirti Bhattarak fully participated in the convention of the Jain Federation of America held in Chicago, May 1987. On June 18,1988 at Hombuja Mutt, sri Devendrakirti Bhattarak organised Agamic initiation ceremonies. One Satyanarayana of Bangalore and Yashoda of Beltanagadi travelled to Hombuja to undergo initiation to Jain Religion. The Bhattarak conducted their Agamic initiation ceremonies to allow them to embrace their new religion, Jainism. The new names were communicated. Satyanarayan was named shravak Shreyams Kumar Jain and Yashoda was named Padmavati Jain. ANANTIAH GOWNDER LEADER OF JAIN COMMUNITY OF KERALA PASSED AWAY Maniyumgood, KR.Mr Anantiah Gownder, the Jain philanthrophist and the leader of the Jain community of Kerala, India, passed away on 27 July 1988. He was 86 years old. Mr Gownder was the founder Presidents of numerous Jain charitable organisations, which were responsible for the establishment and the oiperation of Jain Hostels, Chaityalayas and educational institutions. He had bequeathed hundreds and thousands of rupees and many acres of crop producing lands to these organisations. Jain Education International 2010_02 ****** Jain history is a monumental task. Nevertheless, it needs a beginning. The agog community enters the dark period when its intellectuals reluctantly remain silent. The Jaina community of today, in India, suffers from intellectual seclusion, voluntary or otherwise.
