________________ JAIN MAHASABHA OF INDIA HOLDS CONVENTION AT BHINDAR,RAJASTHAN Bhindar, RS. The Jain Mahasabha of India recently held its convention at Bhindar in Rajasthan, and it was attended by many dignatories and delegates from different provinces of India. Acharya Ajit Sagar was the keynote speaker at the convention. The Mahasabha, assembled under the direction of Jain Acharyas and saints with different linguistic backgrounds of India, represents the aspirations and objectives of common shravaks, the educated and the middle class. The Mahasabha bars and abhors all barriers, language or school, that exist and have become impediments to the common cause of the shravaks whether it is in India, Europe, north America or Japan. Mr Nirmal Kumar Sethi is the President of Jain Mahasabha. Dr M.R.TANGA ELECTED THE FIRST JAIN AT KARNATAKA LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL Culbarga, KA. Dr M.R.Tanga, Professor of Medicine at Gulbarga University in Karnataka, has been elected to the Karnataka State Legislative Council from the Graduates' constituency. He was elected on Bharatiya Janata Party ticket defeating rival Congress and JP contestents. Dr Tanga was a former resident of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. MISS TANUJA BAGI BAGS VALLABHAI PATEL UNIVERSITY GOLD MEDAL Anand, GR. Sardar Vallabhai Patel University, Gujrat awarded gold medal to Miss Tanuja Bagi for her outstanding achievement as the first rank student of the university in Bachelor of Science 1988. Tanuja hails from Rayabagh, known for its sub - Mutt of the principal Jain Muttof Kolhapur in Maharashtra, near Belguam. Tanuja has secured admission at Baroda University to pursue higher studies. JAINA MARATHI SAHITYA SAMMELAN HELD AT POONA Poona, MR. Acharya Vidyanand Muni, who was on his Vihar towards Kothali in Karnataka, the place of his Guru Charya Deshabhushan Maharaj, stopped at Poona to participate and bless the Jaina Marathi Sahitya Sammelan held on 21 -22, May 1988. Many Jain scholars and Pandits, literary figures and leaders from various parts of Maharashtra attended the Sammelan. Many papers were presented on various subjects that Jain Religion has been directly instrumental in the birth and the development of Marathi literature. Dr Kulbhushan Lokhande, professor of Marathi literature, and the Editor of Divya Dhvani, a Jain periodical in Marathi, was one of the dignatories at the Sammelan.
