________________ Chaityalaya in southern United States 538 Apollo Street, Richardson, TX 75080 The Jain Society of North Texas has had its growing pains during its early years and in the past three years, its growth pursuaded the membership to further strengthen the roots of Jain Religion by establishing the Chaityalaya. The history was made this July 1988 in this part of northern Texas State. Jain families numbering around 35 were instrumental in writing history in this part of north America for Jain Religion. The Chaityalaya established. On July 17,1988 at 11.00 A.M., the inaguaration was celebrated with the pooja performings of Vastu Pooja. About 150 people enthusiastically participated in the event. was The efforts of the founding fathers of the Jain Society of North Texas and the present officers: Birendra Jain-President, Atul Khara-VicePresident, Veena Daulat-Secretary, Hansa Varia-Treasurer and the nine directors Janak Daulat, Anant Jain, Suresh Jain, Vijay Jain, Jadav Kenya, Dhiren Shah, Jay Shah, Manoj Shah and Sudhir Shah -, the cherished predilection has now been accomplished. This accomplishment of the Jain Society of North Texas will be recorded as the ninth Chaityalaya in the annals of history of Jain north America Religion in JAIN ESSAY COMPETITION BOSTON JAIN CENTER, MASSACHUSSETS Dr Vinay Kumar Jain, of the Boston Jain Center, has recently announced the annual Jain Essay Competition for the year 1988. The competition is open to all Jain children in three age group categories: 9 - 11 years,12-14 years and 15 years and up. Essay can be written on various facets of Jain Religion including comparitive study; Agamic Scriptures including the opus Samanasuttam published in 1974, the Jain parables and other interesting topics. Essays should be written in English. The essays will be judeged by a committee of 3 judges and will be ranked from one to three. And selected competiotions will be published in Jain Study Circular, north America's acclaimed Jain quarterly on philosophy and the doctrines.
