________________ BIENNIAL CONVENTION 1989 OF JAIN FEDERATION OF NORTH AMERICA The Annual Meeting of the Federation of Jain Associations in North America - JAIN A, held on June 04,1988 in Buffalo, NY, during its deliberations resolved to hold its 5th Biennial Convention in 1989 at Toronto, Canada. There were three contenders to host the convention. The Jain Society of Pittsburg, PA, the Jain Society of Southern California and the Jain Society of Toronto, Canada were the bidders. Ramnik Kothari, President of the Jain Society of Toronto,ably assisted by his treasurer, Bhadra Kothari, convincingly presented a strong bid to host the convention 1989 in Toronto. Vinod Doshi from the Jain Society of Pittsburg, PA similarly made a strong case as to why Pittsburg should be chosen as the site of Convention 1989. The lack of depth of presentation on the part of southern California made it a two way contention between Toronto and Pittsburg. The majority of the vote went to Toronto and successively Toronto was officially chosen as the Site of the 5th Biennial Convention of the Jain Federation of north America. held on July July is to It was resolved that the 5th Biennial Convention will be 1 - 4,1989. JAIN CENTER OF CINCINNATI OH PACKED PROGRAM IN THE PAST QUARTER Again this summer, Jain Center of Cincinnati organised many activities related to socio-spiritual experiencing. And the members participated in these activities with great enthusiam and interest. The 2-day Jain Camp, July 15-16, 1988, held at 5291 State Route 359, Oregonia, in Ohio was successful. Amarendra Muni from Siddhachalam and Bhalabhadra from Toronto conducted the camp. was full of fun, sports, samayik, meditation and yoga. It The social event was Picnic held on July 17 at the camp site. It was an event where the members had ample opportunity for socialising. The visit to Hindu-Jain Chaityalaya in Monroeville, PA on a chartered bus on June 26 plus the participation of the monthly Pooja at the Jain Society of Pittsburg were the highlites in the month of June. On 21 August, the society organised a chartered bus trip to Lexington in Kentucky to participate in the Snatra Pooja organised by the Jain families of Lexington. The Jain families from Ohio as well Lexington were provided with an opportunity to understand the variance each find in their Jain way of life.
